Rob Goverde

Prof.dr. Rob Goverde is Professor of Railway Traffic Operations & Management at the Department of Transport & Planning. His research interests include railway operations, railway timetabling, railway capacity assessment, real-time railway traffic management, (energy-efficient) train control, railway simulation, railway safety and signalling, ERTMS, optimization, operations research, max-plus algebra, optimal control.

Goverde has an MSc in Mathematics from Utrecht University (1993), a Master of Technological Design (MTD) in Mathematical Modelling and Decision Support from Delft University of Technology (1996), and a PhD in Railway Operations from Delft University of Technology (2005). He acted as a consultant to amongst others ProRail, the Netherlands Railways, the project organization of the high-speed line HSL-Zuid, the Ministry of Infrastructure and the Environment, the Dutch Parliament, and the Dutch Safety Board. He is the author of more than 100 journal papers, book chapters, and peer-reviewed conference papers. He is the head of the Railway Systems cluster of the TU Delft Transport Institute, staff member of the TRAIL Research School, board Member of the International Association of Railway Operations Research (IAROR), and member of the Editorial Advisory Board of the Journal of Rail Transport Planning and Management, and Associate Editor of the IEEE Transaction on Intelligent Transportation Systems.

He teaches MSc courses on railway operations and control, railway traffic management, and public transport planning and operations, and also contributes to the Professional Education in Rail Engineering with lectures on railway signalling, railway traffic planning, and railway traffic management. He also supervises MSc students and PhD students doing research on railway operations.
